We think we've got the best customers in the world and are always happy to learn a little more about them . This month we'd like to introduce you to a tech-savvy librarian from the Belvedere-Tiburon Library in California.

Name: Ivan Silva

Employer: Belvedere-Tiburon Library, Tiburon, California

What do you love most about being a librarian? Helping patrons with finding the information they need and solving tech issues.

Favorite tool in your marketing arsenal? Our patrons -- by engaging with them to spread our message.

The library of the future would... Be a playful, creative, hackable space.

Top 3 ways you use LibraryAware?

  1. Website widgets
  2. Social media posts
  3. Readers' advisory brochures

What was your initial perception of library marketing? I always thought it was a bit stale and not very attractive. Most of it is very formal and lacks an engaging voice. We struggle with finding this informal, yet informative, voice.

What is your marketing background, if any, and how has your perception of library marketing evolved? Part of the challenge of being a small library is not having staff dedicated solely to marketing. I don't have any previous marketing experience, but one thing our staff has committed to is marketing beyond the library walls; having great marketing materials helps tremendously.

What has been your biggest marketing challenge? In the past we have had limited contracts for email campaigns. It’s nice to have a tool like LibraryAware that offers this feature bundled with all the other marketing materials and channels.

Has there been a time when using LibraryAware helped you get great results? We recently posted an item on Facebook with the wrong dates and times (oops!) and were mortified when patrons showed up on the wrong date. But we were also pleasantly surprised that the post reached and captivated our target audience in spite of our limited reach.

Last question. Facebook or Twitter? Twitter.
