Newsletters we love: Winter 2020

What is the best way to communicate all the resources of your library to the members of your community? Newsletters, of course! If you’re looking for new ideas and inspiration to spruce up your library’s newsletter – or even to get one started – we’ve got you covered.

We recently published a white paper and hosted a webinar bringing you best practices and tips from libraries big and small, urban and rural, in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. And coming up on January 15th, join us for the webinar Promoting Your Library 365 to learn even more effective ways libraries are using newsletters (and other media!) to keep their library top of mind in the community all year long. It’s a great way to kick off the new year!

Our customers make some awesome newsletters, and we love to share them. Here are some ideas to get you started. And the category is: Film! Shorter days and longer nights are here, as is award season. So get cozy, and check out these newsletters.

Indian Prairie Public Library, Darien, IL
This newsletter looks like an Instagram account! Large, bright and clickable images take you right to their catalog. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, worry not. At the bottom of the newsletter, you can click on a form for Personalized Suggestions. Neat, right?

Lake County Public Library, Merrillville, IN
Do you have TV and/or film buffs on your staff? Meet “Flick Picks” from Lake County Public Library, where each month a new reviewer from a new branch is featured and shares their movie and television picks. (Don’t miss the “Meet the Reviewer” section at the bottom of the newsletter!) What’s also great about this one is that they give recs for a few different categories — Family, TV, Grownup, etc. — in each issue. Have a look at their newsletter:

Washoe County Library System, Reno, NV
Here is another newsletter that features DVDs that are COMING SOON to the library. It’s like previews, but at the library! Get yourself on the hold list quick.
